No raytraced render as it has some bugs.

How about a Matilda? Or one of those crazy troop transports the Brits had? you know.. the one that could hold two guys... other than the driver...

Dont mind the back wheel.

that is one clean turret-roof ;)
looks good man, but what are those black things on e.g. the stowage bin and on the mudguards? that would be awkward battle damage, if it was intended as that...
Cobra8472

Well, it was intended as battle dammadge ;)
Some of it will be textured in though, so don't worry. It'll get better.

Good to see WWII british stuff!! Nice modeling. I bulit one myself some years back (1/35 scale model). Not a pretty tank (look/design wise) but I like the cromwell's hexogonal shape turret with the large bolts. Some parts are still missing on the turret (loader's hatch, gunner periscope, pistol port, etc). I'm sure you'll be adding those later.
If I recalled Michael Wittman knocked out a handful of these during Normandy. Looking good so far. Keep at it mate :)

Cheers guys.
Was there a Server crash or similar sometime? I seem to have lost my old username.
ALL of my 45 posts gone! :D

Here's quite a delayed update
I've started texturing this thing. Please leave out any minor crits untill I myself am satisfied with the work. Feel free to give me a heads up if it's the wrong color or something ;P
I don't know the history of British Camo in WW2, but I went for a more artistic look and put it on there as it is. Hope it's alright

Here's another angle of the wheels and rear mudguard.
Please keep in mind that the mudguard is currently using no bumpmap/spec map and the wheels are only using a preliminary one. It'll look much better when finalized

There's still lots of detail to be added to the mesh itself, small details, tow lines, perhaps a pair of helmets, some fuel canisters and so forth.

Its called stretching ;)
Try using an "unfold" UV

I am aware of the stretching and it's there since i used a simple planar mapping method. The inside of the wheel is very rarely going to show in a render, and even if it's going to be too miniscule to be evident, i'll leave it as it is for now :)
Thanks!

An easy way to fix this problem is to use box rather than planar mapping... this will alleviate the stretches...

Good start Cobra8472, the stretching could be fixed by spliting up the textures into x, y z and applying the planer texturing to each.

It's been a while. I think I veered off the realism route just a tad, but I hope you like it anyways!

indeed very nice work on the textures and model :)
But I have got to get this off my chest: This is still the most ugly tank I know in the whole world and beyond!
(so not your model, but the design itself ;))

looking good, I especially like the bump map. The specular level looks a tad bit too high at least for the front fender flaps (could be the camera angle though). Is the flag upside down?
Nice to see some British armour modelled. Looks fantastic. How about the Comet after this one?

Good start Cobra8472, but the bump is much to high in my opinion.

Thanks everyone.
I will tweak the specular and bumpmaps according to your crits :)
The british flag is indeed upside down, but It will be replaced by a polish one, as apparantly the insignia on the left part of the hull is of polish origin (Very close to the Polish 1st Armored but not quite).
Looking good - I look forward to seeing more paintwork (you're giving me ideas!)

I think it's time to resurrect this old thread.
I haven't done that much work, unfortunately, as I've been busy on other fronts. I'm not liking -that- much how this model has come out, but it's my best 3D work so far.
The towlines have only been painted over in photoshop (they're untextured in max) so they look kind of bad atm. I'm still figuring out how to properly unwrap them.

If you don't want to model the cable threads, you could try applying a thread-like texture on the cable mesh and then twist the mesh however many times you need along it's length.
