Hello there,

I've been lurking here for sometime now and I'm humbled and amazed by the quality of works produced here. I thought I'd introduce myself while sharing my current wip with all armour modelers.

This is a WIP model of an (early version) Hetzer light tank destroyer that I've been working on for the past few months.

The model is not quite complete yet. Some minor details to be added are the notek lamp wiring, engine air intake mesh screens, convoy light, towing cables. Let me know what you think of it while I continue working :)

That's looking fantastic!
I've seen one of these in a museum in Normany, France. They're amazingly small, compact things.

Caman0,
Thanks. The model was done in Maya. Yep, I'll be texturing when I'm finished with modeling.

gery,
Cheers.

Karras,
Hola! Como estas? (pardon my spanish, I haven't been studying espanol for
quite a while :p I'm using Maya and mental ray.

P.S. I posted a comment on your BTR-60 at cgtalk.

That really is tiny. Reminds me of the cricket gun from men in black - high power in a small package.

The model is definitely a great job.

this tank is a little killer.... it's soooo small.... nice model....

Skyraider,
Thanks mate! I didn't realise how small they were till I saw photos w/tank crew on it. Ta!

Big Red 11,
thanks for your kind words. It sure is tiny. I can imagine the crew sharing that cramped interior space. It did packed quite a punch though; armed with a 75mm gun, considering the size. The downside is the gun's limited traverse, more suited for amush/defensive uses.

firefly,
thanks for the comment!

krazycolin,
thanks mate! You're right. A little killer; fast, low and hard-hitting.

Really great detail.
One circle on the idler hub catches my eye a bit (24 faces?)

Hi Spinner, I saw that one after rendering it :)
I've fixed that. I still have to smooth some parts of the model.

I've added the rest of the minor details i.e. engine air intake screens.
the only thing left to model is the tow cables. I haven't figure out what's the best way to model tow cables. I'm using Maya. How do you guys go about it?

Lukem

Oh that's going to be fun to texture! I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Tow cables? In C4D I created a shamrock (four circles, quite close together) sort of shape, swept it along a path (shape of the stowed cable), with a hefty rotation on it. Hope this helps.

Hi Lukem, thanks mate! I think there is a tutorial on that somewhere here.
I'll have to look for it. Loved your king tiger!! It's coming along nicely with textures :)

I can't wait to start on textures. Yeaahhh, that's when the fun(madness) starts... uv mappping :p

I'm fairly sure it's been mentioned before - I can't tell you where though. Perhaps look at Pionier's KT?

Glad you like my KT!:D One day it'll be finished....

any idea on the camo scheme you will use julnyapp ?

After looking through various color plates, I found the more popular color schemes (for 1/35 scale models at least), are the ones with a green basecolor with sand yellow and red brown camo or the 'ambush' color scheme. Both color schemes are favourites of mine.

I'm leaning more to either a machine that managed to survived the war in czech '45 or a polish captured hetzer in '44. Though the latter seems to have a somewhat plain looking 'panda blotches' (brown patches w/ green border) camo, I thought it'll be a interesting color scheme with the story of how it was captured by insurgents and used againist the germans. What do you guys reckon? Any suggestions?

Great to see the Hetzer in 3d....it's looking like a very sweet model. It amazes me how small it was yet it was still one of the best tank destroyers of the war.

Lukem

Just my opinion here, but I prefer the top camo. scheme, even if it is a bit common. The middle one is quite nice - not too keen on the bottom one. I'll wait to see which one you go for....:D

Thanks for your comment digiartist :D
I'll admit it's not the prettiest of german tanks but there's something about the hetzer that intrigues me. I don't know what it is...

I agree. The first one was my initial choice followed by the middle then the last. heh, maybe I'll do both color schemes! I don't want to get too ambitious here, we'll see what happens.

Maybe it's as Gareth said - they were so small!

I had the pleasure of going to Bovington Tank Museum earlier in the year; they had a Hetzer and next door was a Jagdpanther - you certainly saw the difference! (Next door to the JP was a KT - I'm 6'5" and I couldn't see the engine deck of it!)

Looking forward to seeing the colour scheme you choose.:)

Thanks for the advice fellas. I appreciate it ;)

I envy you guys there(UK, US, europe); you have access to some of the world's best tank museums. Lukem, the hetzer looked small in those WWII black & white photos but I guess seeing it in person emphasizes it's small size further. (At 6'5", you must have seen the top hull while standing!) Over here, I have to rely on reference books for modeling as there isn't any military museums.

Gracias Karras. I have to hit the text books. Basic level here :p

I'll keep the wip updated now that modeling is almost complete and uv unwrapping is under way... argghhh. Then it's on to texturing.

Sadly, I didn't take many pictures of the Hetzer - is this any good? You can see the difference in size compared to the Jagdpanther!

Hola everybody. Happy Holidays from wet and rainy singapore.

Karras, que tal usted? Gracias amigo. A wide variety of Russian tanks, a working Panther and Hetzer! Though the marching band (4 girls) seemed out of place. Are those tanks from Kubinka museum in Russia?
