Here is my rendition of the Dutch Aerobatic team flying F8 Meteors... circa mid 50’s.
As far as I’ve been able to tell this team flew with two versions of this color scheme and I chose the second version as it was more colorful (had more red parts in the tail plane area).
I’ve tried to show the Meteors in their diamond configuration as per emblem on the cowling. The last plane is lower to avoid the jet wash of the aircraft in front.

Very well done mate !! I like it very much (and not just because they're a dutch display team  )

Thanks Kiwi
Since your reply, I've uploaded a second render which is a little more dramatic angle.

It's nice seeing the history of the RNLAF. Good job.
Looks great Kevin! You have done a fantastic job of combining the 3D elements with the background. I really like the lighting, especially on the first image.
I was just wondering how it might look with a little exhaust from one or two of them... mostly to show some movement?

Kevin, that looks great. I actually prefer the first render. One thing I've noticed in you latest renders is a huge jump in style and quality over your last batch. Keep it going mate!

A minor nitpick, the dutch airforce roundel is the other way arround as you can see in upper most part of this pic.
The roundel is starting from 12 o clock position going clockwise: Red, White and Blue. not the other wey arround.
I prefer the second render. Very nice texture.
Good job kev!

Great stuff Kevin! Looks very nice indeed!
Evan's suggestion is a good one. A very transparent black smoke from the engines may indeed force a sense of motion.
Unfortunately Primer is right and you mirrored the Dutch roundels! Whoops! I hope it's easily fixable :)
I have a suggestion of my own too... generally a diamond formation is staggered. Indeed the last plane is lower, but usually the nrs. 2 and 3 are too. Also the last plane isn't quite low enough. This image should give you an idea about the vertical spacing in a diamond four formation:

Hope it helps!
Great stuff mate. And of course, great subject!!! ;)

Evan
I was just wondering how it might look with a little exhaust from one or two of them... mostly to show some movement?I have put some exhaust on all planes in both renders but guess I have been too subtle about it as it doesn't show too well in these half size renders. Getting a sense of motion in my renders I find really difficult... exhaust gases and wing trails help but are not always suitable in all render situations. Other than motion blurring the background or plane, are there any other techniques ?

One thing I've noticed in you latest renders is a huge jump in style and quality over your last batch.Cheers digiartist, I usually don't go back and change my renders based on the crits as it usually requires too much work and I'm already onto the next project but I take on board all comments and try to improve it in the next render. This is the first renders I've done where I have added specular bloom effect. I am gradually learning bit by bit better post techniques with Photoshop....keep working at it for each render.

@Mirko & Skyraider, Thanks

Kevin, I thought I could see a little exhaust but wasn't sure 100%. Probably wouldn't see anymore than this in real life anyway I would imagine? Really nice work!

No worries Evan, your crit is helpful as I'll make exhuast trails a little more prominent on future renders of jets and prop aircraft.
Cheers Giant, I'm still at it. I have plenty of aircraft in progress but just need to focus on one at a time now to get some more finished work done. Buffalo is next.

I prefer the first render. Very nice aluminium finish and good to see this Dutch history alive!
