Here is a large size Oil Painting I did on Canvas many years ago as an exercise in the medium and painting something technical.
The original is 36" X 24"
This is not an original piece but is a copy of one of Roy Huxley's paintings. He used to do the boxtop cover paintings for Matchbox model kits. I think he used gouache or watercolor in his work so the color on my painting is a little more vivid.
Many of you have already seen this work on the old mm but I post it here for those that haven't seen it.

Very impressive Kevin. I didn't see these when they were last on MM. I can understand why you want to try 2d again! Remember to keep posting them here!

Yeah I remember when you posted this before. It's very good - I take particular note of course at it is a reminder to me to actually build mine... ahem.

That's indeed a superb painting. Only thing you may wish to do differently next time is the propeller.
I love Huxley's style and hope you keep it up while making all-original pieces.

Thanks very much guys.
Skyraider, this was just a painting exercise and I find copying other peoples work very helpful while learning to work with the medium but yes I will create my own original pieces in the future. Your right about the propellor, it could be a lot better.

Kevin, I fully understand. Copying stuff can be very educational as you know what you're aiming for. As long as you haven't reached it you know you're not done yet :D
Some inspirational Roy Huxley stuff...

If only he'd release a book with all Matchbox box art! Sweet memories too...

Wow...you're a pretty talented guy, kevjon! I like to draw but I suck at painting so I'm always impressed by those who CAN paint.

Superb Kev! you are very talented! Perspective looks good and I love how simple it looks ( i mean it looks like you just spat the whole painting out but I know there's much more to it than that haha)
Cheers!

Skyraider, very true.
Thanks for the link to Roys work. I'd forgotten some of the great work he did, it really brings back some memories to see it again. I hope a book is released with his work too. I just saw Roy Cross (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1840373261/102-0766977-5491347?v=glance&n=283155) works in a book the other day who did the Airfix kit box art. Some really nice stuff and on my purchase list. It seems the two Roy's had it covered. I'll see if I can dig up that article about Roy Huxley in an old scale modelling magazine I've got kicking around and send it to you.
Thanks DC and Capt FG
This painting was done along time ago so I'm a little out of touch with painting and drawing but looking forward to the challenge of coming to grips with it again.
John, I've just been reading your article about painting the Me109's in "Digital Painting". Good tutorial and really interesting to see how you go about it. Will be using as a bit of guide as I explore the new world of digital painting.
Great work in there too BTW.
