Hi all,

Last thursday was the grand opening of the exhibit Aviation Art III, at the Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg, the Netherlands. As far as I am aware, it was a world wide premiere of a digital aviation art exhibit. If anyone knows different, please let me know.

It was a great day for John, Skyraider and myself (kiwi123). The exhibit looks very professional, I'll post some pics later. There were a lot of people at the opening, press, traditional aviation artists, airforce people etc. After speeches by the museum director, myself and a well known dutch new media reporter, the exhibit was open for viewing. It was really wonderful, meeting all these enthusiastic people who were for the most part very very interested in a chat. At the exhibit all three of us have our own section with works on the wall, furthermore a flightsimulator with a D.XXI (with many thanks to Colin !) and a 5 minute long animation by myself.

The three of us had never met before in real life either, so that was amazing as well. We had a good time, went for dinner and all that.

For me a definite highlight was meeting one of the best known dutch aviation artists (I have his book as well) who didn't let me know who he was, we just had a very relaxed chat about the art, how it's being done in the digital way compared to traditional and certain choices in the images. He was really very impressed with the work and the quality all three of us have been able to generate. When I heard from someone else later that he was one of my childhood heroes, just after he came over to say well done and saying again how impressed he was, I ran after him and had another chat. We've also started emailing now, very cool.

And in one of the biggest national newspapers (de Telegraaf): http://reiskrant.nl/reiskrant/eropuit/53832391/Kunst-_en_vliegwerk.html?p=10,1

Some were saying they were amazed that this was our first exhibition, considering the quality of the work. Some said many will follow. Great compliments indeed.

Wiek

I'm very happy that it went so well for you! Your hard work has payed off and I'm sure the whole experience will never be forgotten by those who attended the exhibition. It's a shame I couldn't be there and see it for myself.

My sincerest congratulations to you, Wiek!!!

I'm not showing the whole exhibit here, Ronnie had 7 prints, John 8 and myself 10. Don't want to keep people from visiting the real exhibit. The backlit ones look absolutely amazing, especially John's firebomber painting really jumps out at you.

SHACK! What an awesome venue and great displays. Its one thing to have stunning work, but to have it displayed so well, looks like the promised land to me. Wish it was a bit easier to get across the pond for me and the better half, we are hoping to get over in the spring, the exhibit runs that long yes?

Afterthought, whats up with the big ole sharkobomber looking thing?

Wireframe porn !
man, that's huge : when you first mention the exhibit, I imagined something more conventional, pics hanging from walls in a square room. The way your art is displayed, the dimensions of the pics make it all very special, and the layout of the exhibit is very original.
I'm sure your hearts are filled with pride, as they should.
Congratulations !

Hey all! thanks for the messages, wow wiek your wireframe "wall" really rocks on that photo!

It was was a huge "ego-strengthener" to se all these well known people in front of your paintings and looking reeeally close at the details, I was real proud!

Wiek deserves alot of credit for making so much art for the event (poster and wireframe wall) and the superb video that was frightlingly realistic!

I was surprised that my "speeder" image worked so well that big even tho it wasn't in a huge res (7000 pixels wide) and the quality of the whole setup was so good! it was well over my expectations!

The best part wasof course meeting Wiek and Ronnie for real!

Take care dewds!

John

Thanks for this post Wiek, and for all the nice comments guys! :)

Yep, it was a great day and very cool to finally meet John and Wiek. Indeed we forgot to take a group pic! Doh!

I too thought John's fire bomber looked awesome back-lit. More "3D" than any of my work! :D
