Hi all,
Last thursday was the grand opening of the exhibit Aviation Art III, at the Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg, the Netherlands. As far as I am aware, it was a world wide premiere of a digital aviation art exhibit. If anyone knows different, please let me know.
It was a great day for John, Skyraider and myself (kiwi123). The exhibit looks very professional, I'll post some pics later. There were a lot of people at the opening, press, traditional aviation artists, airforce people etc. After speeches by the museum director, myself and a well known dutch new media reporter, the exhibit was open for viewing. It was really wonderful, meeting all these enthusiastic people who were for the most part very very interested in a chat. At the exhibit all three of us have our own section with works on the wall, furthermore a flightsimulator with a D.XXI (with many thanks to Colin !) and a 5 minute long animation by myself.
The three of us had never met before in real life either, so that was amazing as well. We had a good time, went for dinner and all that.
For me a definite highlight was meeting one of the best known dutch aviation artists (I have his book as well) who didn't let me know who he was, we just had a very relaxed chat about the art, how it's being done in the digital way compared to traditional and certain choices in the images. He was really very impressed with the work and the quality all three of us have been able to generate. When I heard from someone else later that he was one of my childhood heroes, just after he came over to say well done and saying again how impressed he was, I ran after him and had another chat. We've also started emailing now, very cool.
And in one of the biggest national newspapers (de Telegraaf): http://reiskrant.nl/reiskrant/eropuit/53832391/Kunst-_en_vliegwerk.html?p=10,1

Some were saying they were amazed that this was our first exhibition, considering the quality of the work. Some said many will follow. Great compliments indeed.
