A little history:

The flotilla left Naval Base of Spezia the 9 of September of 1943, hours after officially knowing the allied news of the armistice between Italy and powers. Before a drastic German answer, that could be materialized in the capture of the Italian fleet, very powerful in those days of II the World war.

From Supermarina - Italian fleet command in Rome ordered the exit, of all the fleet. In article 3 of the armistice the exit of all the possible ships of the Navy of its Italian bases settled down in the direction of Valetta. The Specia and Tarento, the two naval bases more important of the Italians, were leaving the thicknesses of the squares located in the western Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea.

The ships of the naval group of the Adriatic with base in Tarento that hoisted its standard the armored “Vittorio Veneto” directed to the island of Malta, not having no newness in all the passage. On the contrary the flotilla that abandonment Naval Base of Spezia, to the control of admiral Bergamini, who hoisted his standard in the battleship Roma, they were attacked by the Germans from a principle of the a passage.

In line of battle, the naval group put the prow course to the west of Córcega, to go later towards Bonifacio. To the height of the Magdalena, near the noon, a German airplane of naval reconnaissance was with the naval group of admiral Bergamini. Towards the three of afternoon, the Italian naval formation was attacked by a bomber squadron. Before the Germanic aerial threat, the Italian ships began to disperse. In spite of the made efforts, with intention to avoid enemy impacts, armored Rome was reached, by a pump directed radio of the type Fritz X sent from Dornier Do. 217. (it was therefore the first battleship in being sunk reason why would be denominated nowadays, a missile anti-boat), with the result of serious failures in the rudder. Almost immediately, one second pump of he himself type gave completely in one of the ammunition magazines of the ship. With the explosion, the operating bridge became an iron dough. In a matter of minutes, the battleship, party in two, went away to the bottom. Of the 1,920 crew of armored Rome, 849 officials and sailors, including own admiral Bergamini and most of their General Staff, were catched in their interior, passing away.

Finalized the lethal German attack, the cruise Attilio Regolo, of 5,420 tons of displacement, accompanied by four torpedo-boat destroyers, he initiated the search and collection of the survivors of Rome.

These Render that you will see is a test of texture (is a provisional texture, has to improve much and to age and to make wearing downs in the textures, also lack to texturizar many things.

In this case I have used the motor of 3ds Max with global illumination., this motor I dominate it but.

Very nice!
Yeah, the Fritz-X radio controlled armor-piercing bomb was a devestating weapon. It had flares on the tail to help the controller see it and these have led to misidentification as a missile.
Will you be modelling the Rome's scout sea-plane? It'd add interest to the stern area.
I look forward to seeing you develop the textures.

If I had to choose renders I would take the second to last pic. It seems the colors are a little less bright. Beautiful work! Looks like she just got her fresh paint and ready to sail. I like how you put the "cardboard cuttouts" of people on the deck, really gives scale.

Great modelling of an interesting ship. Well done!

I'm not sure about the colour of the protective covers over the gun barrels - they look a bit too yellow to me; I'm not sure what the true colour should be. The quaterdeck looks a bit too dark as well IMHO.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the final images!

Fantastic work! What a detail!

One friendly request from your moderators though... could you please post smaller images or post links to bigger images? Your images are bigger than most people's monitors and 400 kB each, making it painful to browse this thread - even on broadband and 19" ;)

I appreciate you want to show off the awesome detail on your models though, but in future please post smaller images with links to bigger ones.

Thanks! :)

PS. Make your hull texture higher resolution. At this image size the pixels are showing ;)

very nice! In my opinion it needs some of the colour desaturated and more weathering tho.

Very nice work. I agree on the weathering. It could use a bit more. I would like to know how you did the weld lines on the hull.

Awesome ship, awesome modelling. However, I am feeling that the wooden deck at the ship's end is too orange. I would reduce the saturation for that wood color, to achive a more realistic deck wood shade. And the underwater hull, maybe a wine red would be more authentic? Not sure. Just feelings. Nevertheless, a great model!
