The Osprey aces series of books are quite good. They often contain double page spread illustrations of 5 different type of uniforms of pilots that flew that plane. For example German Jet Aces, Corsair Aces, Wildcat aces etc.

I got the first of the three Andy linked. Nice little reference, although it does feel a bit like you're reading a nazi fashion catalogue

oh Skyraiders here :)
talkin about references, do you have any particular source for mustang details?
i did one med-poly p-51 model (used in realtime renderer) in the past and id like to add details now and maybe try some renders.
enough to say your works are always motivating and the level is still unreachable for me :) but its definately the direction id like to go
i actually dug the links from the sticky thread on this forum and found some stuff ill start with, i guess
id like to know what did you use, anyway, if thats no prob of course

Best drop me an e-mail from an account that can deal with large attachments ;)
Also please specify what exactly you're after.
In the meantime, a walkaround: http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/skyraider/photos/walkarounds/p-51d.htm

check pm please :)
id like to take a really close look at few spots
-ordnance hooks
-guns
-exhausts (have to rework those)
-cockpit (seat especially and rear side of the cockpit, but anything bout cockpit would be helpful as well)
-back wheel and its cover
-air intake on the belly (i think the shape i got is kinda screwed :))
-propeller (blades especially)
-rudder
also any bumps on the wings or fuselage (im not sure what that is or why that is :) but seen some, near ailerons for example, has something to do with the controls i guess)
i know the list may be kinda long :) but whatever you could provide would be greatly appreciated :)

In regard to WWII Pilot References - there are also many good Militaria sites on the Internet. A number of them have some of the best photography I have seen on the subject. They can help create those little fine details of Uniforms and Field Gear of both Allied & Axis powers. I have listed just few below for anyone who may be interested in surfing them. It’s a great way to spend an hour or two.
