This is a sort of self training demo in preparation for the main action in Armored Cav (http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918). My creating this is a sort of broken down step by step self lesson in creating the Armored Cav (http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918) video correctly. The story behind the animations is as said a series of training sessions for both Terran and Clan Wolverine forces. There are four sessions starting with:

1. Aircraft Test
Interception/base attack- 2 F-22s are dispatched to destroy an as yet unnamed airbase. From their target airbase two F-42s are dispatched to intercept and stop their attack.

My critical areas
1- First of I want to better my aircraft animations, as evidenced in Chase, my additon to the 12th Speed Animation Thread.
2- As doing this I began to see with clearer eyes the importance of the camera telling the story, I'm working on this too.
3- My texturing and modeling will also be on display, though not as high a resolution quality as predicted but if anyone wants a higher resolution image or video just lemme kno n I'll put one up.
4- Particle work; flames and stuff are alright to do, but contrails and explosions are another matter.
5- Scene creation: TS cannot do '3d' clouds without some 'extra work' only I don't kno what that 'extra work' is. Then there's the terrain itself. Aside from the obvious coloring issue, what else can I do? I just noticed my lighting and shadows aren't working too well. (I'm using the Infinite light in TS; 6 lights, 1 as actual 'sun', rest to brighten up the scene)
6- Any other things you may notice.

Multiple Rocket Launch Artillery system. Designed this one as a mixed breed with the mobility of HIMARS with the firepower of the original MLRS.

Hmmm, you'll probably need to model a bunch of torn off parts of your original vehicle (debris), which you can then have shoot out of the explosion. You can hide the actual impact by a full-screen white out flash. This is the point where you hide the vehicle and replace it with an explosion + debris. I don't know how well your software supports these kind of effects, but it's not gonna be easy.

I'm using truespace 5.1. I can do something about the impact, but I'm not sure what kind of damage I'll get from say a hit from the top. I can't visualize what sort of damage I'll have to model. The explosion obviously "kills" the vehicle but doesn't annihilate it either (ie, empty smoking crater). That help?

Could always add effects in post production in "after effects" or a similar program.

Skyraider suggestion of a whiteout would work. I would try the whiteout, shockwave, then the dust and rocket launcher settling upside down on the edge of a crater. The upside down part will help you eliminate a lot of work modeling another damage vehicle.(just add lots of debris, flat/on fire tires and a door or two open)

Perhaps a very near-miss, blowing the vehicle upside down and destroying it that way?
