Olympic Air Show June 17, 2006

Just got through reviewing these shots from last weekend.

Weather and layout combined to make a terrible shooting session - the sun was directly behind "show-center" and the clouds did their best to mess with exposure - but the selection of planes was amazing! The crowd was small - so the static displays where wide open for nice shots.

The Mustang, Wildcat, Zero(T-6) (Replica from Tora-Tora-Tora), Provost, Hueys (2), Chinook and stunt teams where excellent - but the Skyraider, Mig-17, and Ah-1 Cobra flights where highpoints for me. (Except that the three helicopters landing within 100 yards of me seems to have put dust into the working of my camera!)

Mustang

Avenger

Chinook

Ah-1 Cobra

Mig-17

Provost Mk.3a

Skyraider

Wildcat

Yak-11

Zero(Replica)

Great selection of aircraft and nicely photographed....some good motion blurred shots too.

The shot of the Mustang in flight above the tree tops is a good one for showing some nice specular hightlights and light bloom going on there.

Very cool.

Nice pics, thanks.
Love the thumbs-up motif on the Mustang tail.
We've a Mig-17 nearby here. They're a great little aircraft
I passed a Sabre on a stick recently and wished for a lottery win. Getting it off camp guard duty and back in the air to duel with a Mig-17 is the kind of thing to put meaning into your life.

Wow mate, looks like that was an awesome show with great variety. The Mustang shot with backlight is just gorgeous! The MiG with afterburner flame is a beaut too, as is the Chinook.
Very nice stuff, Ric! I've only been to two shows this year... gotto fix that! Coming weekend: Legends!

Thanks All! Work has been spoiling all my fun since these where shot.
Next year I may try to get around the other side of the field (fence-watching) - just to get better shots of the flying.

Spinner: Is there anything MORE depressing than an airplane-on-a-stick? (well - aside from the mothballed ones)

Thanks Ronnie - I don't think I'll get to see much else before Sept. @ Duxford and Old Warden.
Can't wait to see what you get from Legends !

Quite like mothballed ones. Especially those from WW2 which are re-discovered in some barn, still in original camouflage and good quality. Like time machines... wonderful
